Yala Safari is a guided wildlife tour inside Yala National Park in Sri Lanka. Visitors travel in 4×4 jeeps with licensed drivers who follow approved routes. Yala is famous for leopards, elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, deer, and birds.
Yala covers forests, grasslands, lagoons, and rocky landscapes. It is divided into blocks, with Block 1 being the most popular for beginner safaris.
Leopards are the main highlight due to their high population. Elephants often appear in herds. Crocodiles, spotted deer, sambar deer, and monkeys are common. Birdwatchers can see over 200 species.
Morning safari runs from around 6.00 AM to 10.00 AM. Afternoon safari runs from 2.30 PM to 6.00 PM. Full-day safaris give more time and cover more routes. Shared jeeps suit budget travelers, while private jeeps offer flexibility.
The dry months from February to July are ideal, as animals gather near water sources. Early mornings give better chances of seeing active wildlife.
