Those four details are how to book a Yala safari. We need the safari date, the hotel name, how many people are in the jeep, and the passport each person will show at the window. A Sri Lankan NIC is the document for a local permit. Tell us that before we quote, because the permit band changes.
Children aged 6 to 12 pay a lower band. Children under six are usually free. They still need a document at the gate. A photo on a phone is a weak backup. The name on the booking should match the document in the jeep.
Which jeep to book
Choosing the clock is part of how to book a Yala safari. We book a private jeep for your group, up to six people. A private booking is not a self-drive. A rental car does not enter the blocks, and we do not put your group in a vehicle with another booking.
Park hours on an open block are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. These are the clocks we actually sell:
- Morning: pickup at 5:30 AM from Tissamaharama, Kirinda, Palatupana, or Kataragama, in the park from 6:00 AM until about 10:30 AM.
- Extended morning: the same 5:30 AM pickup, staying until about 12:30 PM.
- Afternoon: about 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
- Full day: 5:30 AM pickup through to 6:00 PM.
An afternoon entry uses the same permit band as the dawn jeep. Arriving later does not buy a cheaper ticket. When the date is open, we book the morning first.
Which gate the booking uses
The hotel and the date pick the boom. Sleep in Tissamaharama, Kirinda, or Palatupana, and Block 1 is open: Palatupana. Sleep in Kataragama, and Block 1 is open: Katagamuwa. Kataragama is the city. Katagamuwa is the boom. The choice among those gates is on the Yala National Park entrances page.
From 14 September to 15 October 2026, Blocks 1 and 2 are closed. The Yala National Park official site says Blocks 3, 4, 5, and 6 remain open during that rest. Dates checked 22 September 2026. The jeep we book in that window is Block 5 from Galge. We do not sell Blocks 2, 3, or 4. The start of the rest is on the September opening page. If the Department of Wildlife Conservation extends the dates, we stay on Galge or we move the morning.

Official Block 1 hire, tickets excluded, is LKR 21,450 for a half-day and LKR 31,350 for a full day, for up to six people. Galge hire is LKR 23,100 for a half-day. Prices checked 22 September 2026 on the official jeep hire page. That cab does not include the permit. A foreign adult permit is about USD 25 before service charges and VAT, paid in LKR at the desk, and the rupee total moves with the dollar. If the booking says fees in, you do not hand a second stack of notes to the ranger for the permit. If you hired only the official cab, you still pay the permit at the window.

Can I book the jeep at the gate on the morning?
Do not plan on it. The permit, the tracker, and the vehicle are one booking. Our driver meets you at the hotel. A rental car stopped at the fence is not a safari.
Is there an online park ticket I should buy first?
Not for our jeeps. The department collects the permit at the gate, in LKR. Our quote either wraps that desk charge or leaves it for the window. We say which one it is before you pay the deposit.
How far ahead should I send the date?
Send it when you enquire. We confirm the jeep and the gate the night before. A 5:30 AM pickup on a holiday week is the slot to fix first. We do not publish a sell-out number.
What if Block 1 is closed on my date?
From 14 September to 15 October 2026 we book Galge. Outside that window, Block 1 is the first jeep unless the department has extended the rest. You do not need a second booking to change the boom.
