Our yala safari price, deposit, and what is included

A private half-day jeep on our packages starts from USD 57 per person in a jeep of 6. Full-day private jeeps start from USD 72 per person in a group of six. A USD 30 deposit holds the jeep. The balance is due on arrival.

That from-price includes the park permit, taxes, drinking water, and hotel pickup in the Tissa–Kirinda–Palatupana belt. A long-distance pickup is extra and is priced by hotel name. Children under five travel free on our packages.

Last updated: September 2026. Permit prices move with the dollar rate and government taxes. Treat the USD 25 line as a planning number. That is why the yala safari price on our packages wraps the ticket, so you are not paying cash at Palatupana.

Official Yala jeep hire in LKR

Official jeep hire is priced per vehicle, not per seat. The park site lists Toyota 4×4 rates for up to six people. Tickets are not in those figures. You still buy the permit at the boom.

The Yala National Park official safari page publishes the LKR jeep rates we use below. Last updated: September 2026. Tissamaharama and Kirinda pickup sit in those official figures. Other hotels are extra.

Those LKR lines are jeep only. Six guests share one cab. A tracker is assigned with the ticket, not as a second cash tip at the fence. We still collect you at 5:30 AM so you are in the queue before the 6:00 AM boom.

Yala park tickets and the yala entrance fee

Park tickets are paid in LKR at the gate. The desk adds taxes and a service charge. The rupee total moves with the dollar, so the same foreign adult can pay a different LKR figure in June and in September.

Foreign adult permits start at about USD 25 before service charges and VAT. Children aged 6 to 12 are charged at a lower band. Children under six are usually free. Bring passports. The ticket desk records nationality at every gate.

SAARC passports sit on a separate band from other foreigners. Locals pay in LKR at a lower desk rate. We do not print a fake local table here. If you hold a Sri Lankan NIC, tell us before we quote, because the permit line changes.

You cannot self-drive a rental car into the blocks. The ticket, the tracker, and the jeep are one plan. Our driver meets you at the hotel. You sleep in the seat. We go straight to the ticket desk.

Which gate you pay for, and leopard density

The gate does not change our from-price. It does change the drive and the cat odds. Palatupana and Katagamuwa open into Block 1. Galge opens into Block 5.

Block 1 holds one of the highest recorded densities of Sri Lankan leopard. That is why Palatupana is the default first jeep. Katagamuwa is still Block 1, usually with a thinner 6:00 AM queue if you sleep in Kataragama.

Galge is quieter scrub and lagoons. Leopards live there too. The density is lower than the Palatupana circuit. We use Galge for a second drive, or when Block 1 is on rest.

Season, opening times, and the 2026 rest

Yala opening times on open blocks are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The gate closes at sunset. Our local pickup stays 5:30 AM. February to July is the driest window. June and July are the peak months for leopards in Block 1.

From 14 September to 15 October 2026, Blocks 1 and 2 are closed. Palatupana and Katagamuwa do not run Block 1 in that window. Galge is the boom we use. The yala safari price from-line does not jump because the rest moved you to Block 5.

Light rain does not cancel a drive. We only pull the jeep if DWC closes the block. If Palatupana floods after a storm, we do not force Galge as a same-morning swap unless that was already the plan and the clock still works.

Yala safari cost versus Udawalawe or Wilpattu

Stay with Yala if leopards are why you budgeted the jeep. Udawalawe is stronger for elephant herds and is usually a shorter add-on from Tissa. Wilpattu is a different region of the island and a poor same-day swap from Palatupana.
