So Palatupana is 20 to 25 minutes from Tissamaharama. Also, we collect Tissa, Kirinda, Palatupana, and Kataragama hotels at 5:30 AM. Then you are in the Block 1 line before the 6:00 AM boom.

Which Yala gate do we book?
Palatupana into Block 1, from a Tissa hotel. A Kataragama room can use Katagamuwa instead. From 14 September to 15 October 2026, Blocks 1 and 2 are closed, so we run Galge.

Udawalawe when the job is elephants
So Udawalawe is the elephant park. Also, the park wildlife page puts about 500 elephants there. So a guest who wants herds, not a leopard chance, should say so before we lock Palatupana.
Also, a herd at a Yala tank is common, and it is still not the Udawalawe job. Yala elephants are part of a mixed morning. Udawalawe is a different ticket and a different gate. An Udawalawe desk cannot hold our Yala jeep.
However, we do not stop for a feeding show on either park. Also, there is no elephant ride on our jeep. So the animal stays wild. Then you stay in the seat.
How the best national parks split on one trip
So stay with Yala if one morning has to produce a chance at the Block 1 list. Wilpattu holds leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and spotted deer, and it needs its own night in the north. Bundala is the wetland west of Tissa, and the reason to book it is birds, including greater flamingo in the migrant months.

In addition, a shared jeep is a different product. Our quote is a private jeep of up to six. So you choose the park and the clock. You do not share the tracker with strangers who want a different gate.
For example, a couple who wants both a leopard chance and a flamingo lagoon needs two permits. We can put Yala at dawn and talk about Bundala as a later ticket. Instead, we do not drive both parks before breakfast.
Season for the best national parks
February to July is the dry window the Yala about page names, because the tanks drop and animals use the open ground. Also, June and July are the peak months we see for leopards in Block 1. Book the jeep before you land.
From 14 September to 15 October 2026, Blocks 1 and 2 are closed. Therefore a Palatupana queue will not open. So we move that morning to Galge. However, if the reopen date moves, the hotel can stay and the gate changes.

Wilpattu, Bundala, and the best national parks
