What Yala jeep prices for locals cover
The cab and the permit are two payments. Fuel, the driver, and the jeep are in the official hire figure. The entrance ticket is not. You buy that at the boom, in LKR, before the drive starts.
A tracker is assigned with the ticket. That is not a second cash tip at the fence. Water and a hotel pickup outside Tissamaharama or Kirinda are also outside the official cab line.
You cannot self-drive a rental car into the blocks. The ticket, the tracker, and the jeep are one plan. Our driver meets you at the hotel when you book the jeep with us.
Official cab rates in LKR
Official hire is priced per vehicle, not per seat, and not by passport. The park site lists Toyota 4×4 rates for up to six people. The same LKR lines apply whether the group is local, foreign, or mixed. Prices checked 22 September 2026.

Those lines are the jeep only. Six guests share one cab. Dividing LKR 21,450 by six is arithmetic, not a published per-person tariff, and it still excludes every ticket.
Where the local rate applies
Locals pay the permit in LKR at a lower desk rate than a foreign passport. That is the saving. It is not a discount on the LKR 21,450 cab. The desk checks the NIC, then cuts the ticket.
We do not print a local rupee table. The park states gate totals in LKR and says they move with the dollar, so a copied NIC chart goes stale. The bands we can describe without a fake table are on the Yala National Park entrance fee page. Foreign adults start at about USD 25 before service charges and VAT. A Sri Lankan NIC is a different line.
SAARC passports are not the local rate. They sit on their own band. Children aged 6 to 12 usually pay a lower ticket than adults. Children under 6 are usually free. Bring the NIC for adults and a document for each child, because the desk will ask.
A mixed jeep is common. Two NIC holders and four foreign passports means two local permits and four foreign permits, on top of one shared cab. Tell us the split before we quote, or the permit line will be wrong.
Sharing one jeep
Yala jeep prices for locals drop per person when the family fills the cab, because the hire is already for up to six. They do not drop because a resident booked the same Toyota. A half-empty jeep still costs LKR 21,450 at Palatupana.
We do not sell a shared seat with strangers. A gate share arranged at the entrance is a different product, with its own timing and its own tracker plan. If you want the 6:00 AM queue, book the whole jeep.
Our overseas packages are a different quote. A private half-day on that tariff starts from USD 57 per person in a group of six, with foreign entrance fees inside the figure. That number is not a local price. If everyone in the jeep holds a Sri Lankan NIC, say so before we take a booking, and we will quote the cab plus local permits instead of that package.
Which gate to book
Palatupana and Katagamuwa are both Block 1, at LKR 21,450 for a half-day. Galge is Blocks 5 and 6, at LKR 23,100. From Tissamaharama, Galge adds about 20 to 30 minutes against a Palatupana run.
Blocks 1 and 2 are closed from 14 September to 15 October 2026. In that window the open public cab is Galge, so the LKR 23,100 line is the one that applies. After 15 October, Block 1 is the cab we book first when it is open. The closure dates are on our September opening note.
Blocks 3 and 4 are restricted. We do not sell them. Block 2 is not a standard public quote, and it closes with Block 1 during that rest.
A morning jeep from Tissa, Kirinda, Palatupana, or Kataragama starts with a 5:30 AM pickup so you are at the boom for 6:00 AM. The morning block of time runs to about 10:30 AM. A full-day cab on the official sheet is the longer hire, not a second ticket.
What to tell us before the quote

A USD 30 deposit holds our jeep. The balance follows the quote. If the group is local and we were not told, a foreign-permit package is the wrong bill, so say it in the first message.
