These parks are not interchangeable. Yala has the world’s highest protected-area leopard density and more habitat types — and more jeeps in Block 1. Udawalawe is open grassland around a reservoir, with reliable elephants and fewer leopard odds. If your route is Ella to Mirissa and you only have one half-day, Udawalawe is logistically easier. If the leopard is the point of the trip, branch to Yala and overnight nearby.
