Ella to Palatupana is about two to two-and-a-half hours via Wellawaya and Thanamalwila. Leave around 3:00 AM for the morning gate, or travel after breakfast for the afternoon safari. The transfer is priced separately from the jeep; we confirm both when you book.
Same-day return or overnight near Tissa
A morning safari from Ella is a long day: pre-dawn pickup, five hours in the park, then the climb back to the hills — or a drop on the south coast. If you want two drives, sleep near Tissamaharama or Palatupana instead of forcing a second gate from Ella.

Can I do Yala as a day trip from Ella?
Yes. The usual pattern is a very early pickup, morning or extended-morning safari, then return to Ella or continue to Tangalle, Mirissa, or Galle. A full-day safari from Ella is a long day — we recommend an overnight near Tissa if you want two drives.
Is transport from Ella included in the from-price?
The from-price on tour cards is the safari (jeep, driver, park tickets). Ella transfers are quoted by vehicle and drop-off. Ask on WhatsApp with your hotel name.
What time should I leave Ella?
For a 6:00 AM park entry, leave Ella around 3:00–3:15 AM. Afternoon safaris leave Ella around 11:00 AM–12:00 PM depending on your hotel.
